Do people really have the ability to contact the spirits of deceased human beings? Television would have you to believe so with shows like Ghost Hunters, Ghost Whisperer, and Medium. Apparently there are people who claim to really be in contact with the dead. A woman contacted me via email that she worked in a hospital where she and a group of similar minded people routinely helped the spirits of the dead cross over into eternity. Based on my Bible studies, I have always believed and still believe, that when a person dies their spirit immediately goes to be with God in a special place to await the resurrection of their bodies. Those who have rejected the gift of Christ's pardon go to a place separated from God to await the Great White Throne Judgment. This is where they will find out why their names were blotted out of the "Book of Life". I have never believed that our deceased spirits "hung around" trying to figure out what to do. I have always believed that at the point of death, what happens to our spirits was beyond our control. We were now in God's hands. According to Ms. Second Sight (not her real name), some of the spirits don't know they are dead or are confused as to what to do. She clarifies matters for them so they can move on. This sounds like a noble thing to do and Ms. Second Sight also claims to be a Christian. I had some questions. How did she know the spirit was that of a human being? How did she know whether or not she was really communicating with demonic spirits pretending to be human? Why were the deceased spirits still "hanging around"? What about those who had rejected Christ's gift of salvation? Surely she wasn't helping the departed spirits cross over into the torments of hell? Ms. Second Sight did reply to my questions. She said, "When a friend of mine, Dee, who owns the old hospital building now, approached me for help in her "crossing over" sessions, I too was very skeptical. We both know the difference between the truly lost spirits and the demonic ones. I can feel it in a second. The difference is truly strong." I have a problem with this statement. How can a person who lives in the material world possibly understand the spiritual world? These scriptures come to mind: "And no marvel: for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light." 2 Cor. 11:14 "9 Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, 10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved." 2 Thes. 2:9-10 "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places." Eph 6:12 Ms. Second Sight truly believes she can distinguish between evil and non-malevolent spirits. Since Satan and his angels can pretend to be angels of light, then there is no reason to not believe that these same beings are pretending to be the spirits of now deceased people. We know for certain that angels and demons occupy the spirit world because scripture tells us so. The scriptures allude to what happens to our spirits when we die but it does not name a specific place for where they await the resurrection. Ms. Second Sight said, "When a demonic spirit is detected, which has only happened once, we simply prayed it away - out of the building to be exact." I have to agree with the method employed in getting rid of the demonic spirit. Prayer is the most effective method against evil. However it is my feeling that all of the spirits Ms. Second Sight encounters are evil. If I was Satan out to trick a human, I would tell my demons to become a angel of light but one of you expose your true evil self so the person won't become suspicious. Ms. Second Sight went on to say, "We all know when we do have a successful crossover that the joy and peace we feel could only be of the Lord......" Satan is quite capable of producing this same effect in people. He uses it in some of the near death experience cases. He can transform himself into an "angel of light". Ms. Second Sight says she is not a medium or channeler. She doesn't try to contact spirits who have left earth....just those who are scared, don't know what to do, in denial of their death, or who make themselves known to her. She also said, "In 1979 I "watched" my grandfather cross over. His spirit was hovering in the bedroom of his home where he passed away. He wasn't sure what to do. So down from Heaven came my great aunt, his sister-in-law, my great uncle, a brother-in-law and my cousin, his nephew. They were there to take him Home and he was so happy to see them. In 1990 when my mother passed away and we found her in her home early that morning, she was longing gone to Home - she knew exactly what to do! (They both visit me periodically by the way.)" Concerning the lost souls, she had this to say, "And those who have rejected the salvation of Christ in all likelihood won't believe there's any place to crossover to. Now that you mention that, I believe that must be the case with some of those who always seem to be in the background but don't ever come forward....or get too close." I conclude that because of mankind's fascination with the occult over the last 200 years or so, I believe many "gateways" or "portals" have been opened for the demonic spirits to enter and interact with man. We do know from scripture that the whole world will worship Satan during the tribulation period. Our minds are being prepared to accept supernatural events as being "normal". I believe Ms. Second Sight may be in contact with demons pretending to be human. She needs our prayers. Copyright 2007 by Gary Goodworth
