Who is Jesus Christ? November 28, 2006 |
On December 25th, much of the world celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ. Sadly, many of those who look forward to the festivities of this day really have no idea why they are doing so. It is just a tradition to them. Who is this Jesus that we have a holiday for every winter? 4 And where I go you know, and the way you know." 5 Thomas said to Him, "Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way?" 6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. 7 "If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; and from now on you know Him and have seen Him." John 14 In the above passage, Jesus told Thomas that he knew God the father by knowing Jesus. In other words, Jesus was telling Thomas He was God. Colossians Chapter 1 identifies the man who died on the cross for our sins, whom we know as Jesus Christ, as also being God. 13 He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, 14 in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins. 15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. 17 And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist. 18 And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence. 19 For it pleased the Father that in Him all the fullness should dwell, 20 and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross. There is no doubt that the Holy Bible proclaims that Jesus Christ is God. In John Chapter 1 we read 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. 4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. Verse 14 of this same chapter states And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. Since the scriptures plainly teach that Jesus Christ is God then all of our worship should be directed toward Jesus Christ, and to no one else, but this is not happening in the world today. What does the world say about Jesus Christ? Ron and Jason Carlson, authors of the article The "Jesus" of The Cults which appeared in the September 2006 issue of the prophecy magazine Midnight Call had this to say about this subject: Jehovah's Witnesses - They say Jesus is actually Michael, the archangel. He was the first creation of God. (Scripture says that Christ created all things.) He came to earth as a man, died on a stake, and rose from the grave invisibly as a spirit. (Scripture says that Jesus rose bodily and appeared to over 500 witnesses including his disciples.) Jesus then returned invisibly to Brooklyn, N.Y. in 1914 to head up the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society. (When Jesus returns all of the earth shall see Him.) Mormons (Latter Day Saints) - Jesus is the spirit brother of Satan. (Actually Jesus created Lucifer who became Satan.) Jesus was once a human being like you and me (the Word became flesh) but through good works He evolved spiritually to become a god. (Jesus was and always has been God.) However, Jesus is just one god among many, all of whom were once human and evolved to become gods themselves. (This is a twist of the scripture teaching that we will become like Christ when we are resurrected.) Jesus was born to Mary through physical incest when His father, God, had sexual relations with her. Mormons teach that the blood of and cross of Christ is foolishness and cannot fully atone for our sins. (For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.1Co 1:21 ) There is no cross on any Mormon church. Scientology - They say Jesus is a false dream. (In other words, they believe the Holy Bible is a book of lies.) Freemasonry - They teach that Jesus was only a moral teacher. He was no better than Buddha, Confucius, Moses, or Mohammed. Freemasons deny that Jesus was the light of the world and claim that Freemasonry is the true light of humanity. There are several other false belief systems concerning Jesus Christ, but the above are very well known. Scripture plainly teaches that Jesus Christ is God. Your future and my future are in the hands of Christ whether you believe it or not. So why do so many people have a false idea of who Jesus Christ is? The scripture says, 3 But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, 4 whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them. 1 Cor. 4 Who is the god of this age? We call him Satan. Copyright 2006 by Gary Goodworth
