-------Hornets From Hell-------

This past summer Asian hornets killed 41 people and injured over 1,500 in China. The Asian hornet is the biggest hornet in the world - an average Asian hornet is about the size of a man's thumb and its sting is the most devastating of all hornet stings.

When a person is stung by an Asian hornet, they can look forward to their red blood cells being destroyed which can result in kidney failure and death. The reactions are far worse for people who have an allergy to bee stings. One hornet sting causes excruciating pain and the pain can last hours and sometimes days.

The people who are stung by these hornets, who do not die from the stings, can suffer weeks of torment as their bodies struggle to recover from the venom that has been injected into them. The number of people killed and injured by these bees in China this past summer is mind boggling. Just think how much worse it could have been if these aggressive insects were all over the world.

This story reminds me of a prophecy from the book of Revelation. There is a passage from Revelation that talks about "locusts" stinging men and the sting is so tormenting man will seek death but will not find it. We find this passage in the book of Revelation Chapter 9 "9 Then the fifth angel sounded: And I saw a star fallen from heaven to the earth. To him was given the key to the bottomless pit. 2 And he opened the bottomless pit, and smoke arose out of the pit like the smoke of a great furnace. So the sun and the air were darkened because of the smoke of the pit. 3 Then out of the smoke locusts came upon the earth. And to them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power. 4 They were commanded not to harm the grass of the earth, or any green thing, or any tree, but only those men who do not have the seal of God on their foreheads. 5 And they were not given authority to kill them, but to torment them for five months. Their torment was like the torment of a scorpion when it strikes a man. 6 In those days men will seek death and will not find it; they will desire to die, and death will flee from them. 7 The shape of the locusts was like horses prepared for battle. On their heads were crowns of something like gold, and their faces were like the faces of men. 8 They had hair like women’s hair, and their teeth were like lions’ teeth. 9 And they had breastplates like breastplates of iron, and the sound of their wings was like the sound of chariots with many horses running into battle. 10 They had tails like scorpions, and there were stings in their tails. Their power was to hurt men five months. 11 And they had as king over them the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in Hebrew is Abaddon, but in Greek he has the name Apollyon."

These locusts mentioned in the book of Revelation come out of the bottomless pit so they are demonic in nature. The conclusion of the book of Revelation has Satan being cast into the bottomless pit for a thousand years. Are these locusts giant insects, small insects, or something else entirely? We simply do not know. Some bible scholars and commentators believe these locusts are some type of war helicopter based on the description from verses 7 through 10 but I do not share this opinion because man seeks to die but death flees from them. These demonic entities are striking a specific target: those who do not have the seal of God on their foreheads. Their sting is so painful and tormentful that man will seek death but death will flee from them so even suicide is impossible for the victims of these locust stings. It could be that the stings cause complete paralysis so the victim can do nothing but endure the pain. The scholars who believe this is a picture of war helicopters believe chemical warfare is being employed. These locusts from the bottomless pit could even be a type of hornet from hell because John, the writer of this book, was trying to describe something in his present day terms that he really did not how to describe in any other way.

These men and women who are tormented by these demonic locusts are probably the same ones who have taken the mark of the beast. Scripture plainly teaches that anyone who takes the mark of the beast will be forever separated from God and will spend an eternity in hell. The torment inflicted by these locusts will be just a preview of the eternal fate these people are headed for. The leader of these hellish creatures is Abaddon which is another name for Destroyer. This is a probably a reference to Satan himself.

There is a theory floating around that the mark of the beast actually changes the DNA of the person making him or her into something other than human so they have no chance of redemption after that. The idea is that Satan is bringing back the Nephilim one more time like he did just before God destroyed the world with flood back in Genesis.

There is one thing to keep in mind here. Even though hell is literally being unleashed on planet earth with these locusts and other judgments from the book of Revelation, God is in control. God is the one who sends the angel down to open the bottomless pit. God is the one permitting the hellish creatures to roam the Earth. God is the one not allowing His chosen, the ones with the seal of God, to be attacked. God is saying to the world, "All who reject my Son will suffer torment because you have chosen death over life."

Sometimes we think God is not in control because of all the bad things that happen in this world on a daily basis. People forget this world has been cursed by sin and will remain that way until Christ returns to set up His kingdom. Consider the Asian hornet. This hornet could wreak havoc all over the world and parents could fear letting their children outside to play but the hornets are confined to Asia and more specifically China. There are warm climates all over the world that these hornets could thrive in but, for the most part, they are confined to the Asian countries. Who is keeping them there? God is in control.

There is a swarm of demonic locusts being kept in isolation until the day of Judgment. Who is keeping them there? Again, the answer would be God. These are simple and obvious truths to the one who believes what the Bible teaches but are complete foolishness to those who refuse to believe. There is a vaccination available which will protect a person from the minions of hell. All they have to do is inject the blood of Christ into their belief system.
